"remember when 1d performed through the dark on snl and we had a quick bright flash of What Could Have Been" can you please explain what could've been? why is this performance special?

haveyouquitefinishedlouis:

Because Through The Dark should have been released as a single. They fucked up with the promotion of this album, they fucked up so bad. Instead of highlighting really good and refreshing tracks such as Through The Dark, Happily or DFWYB, their team went for songs like Midnight Memories and Best Song Ever whereas the more original and mature sounding ones were pushed into the background. After their SNL performance people outside of their target demographic were actually opening up their eyes to them as a music act, the song is the kind that is much more likely to appeal to a more mature audience. It’s a great song.

So basically they had the chance to start undergoing an image change and reach out to a more desired market already back then. They had the golden opportunity with this one, people were ready to listen. But as we all know their team are a bunch of incompetent idiots who of course dropped the ball and didn’t take advantage of the song and that’s what I mean by What Could Have Been.

I have high hopes for the upcoming album though, I have a feeling it’s going to be their best one yet, and I hope for the love of god it will receive the promotion it deserves and won’t suffer the same fate as Midnight Memories.

Link. I’m still angry about this.
